Frequently asked questions.

Is your school licensed?

Yes, we are licensed as a child care center through the Utah Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing program.

Is your staff background checked?

Yes, all staff is fully background checked and finger printed.

How often will I co-op?

Co-op frequency is dependent on both class size and frequency. As a general guide you will co-op once every 3 weeks.

What if I can’t make my assigned co-op shift?

It is your responsibility to show up for your assigned co-op shift. If you cannot make it you are responsible for getting coverage. The best way to do this is to let your class know via your WhatsApp group and ask to switch with another parent for another day. Failure to show and failure to get an alternate is a $50 fee.

Why do parents need a Food Handlers Permit?

All parents who will be co-oping on site classes will need to have their Food Handlers Permit. The children have a shared snack during snack time that the assigned snack parent preps in our kitchen.

Wasatch Wanderers do not have a shared snack. Each child will need to bring their own.

What is the snack policy?

All food for the shared snack will need to be packaged and prepared on-site. Class allergies will be noted. For example: hummus, carrots, sliced apples and cheese. Or salami with cheese, crackers and fruit.

What is the Check-In/Check-Out Procedure?

Guardians will check-in/out their child using the Brightwheel app. You can scan the teacher’s QR code and enter your child’s Brightwheel pin to digitally log a check-in/out.

Do you offer extended care?

Yes, we do! Our extended care is called Fun Bunch. We offer Early Drop Off (8:15-8:45am), Fun Bunch AM (8:45-11:45am), Fun Bunch PM (11:45-2:45) and Late Pickup (2:45-3:15pm). Advance sign up is required and available on our member page. Fun Bunch is billed monthly.

How do you communicate with parents?

Brightwheel for all-school communication and billing. WhatsApp for individual class communication. Each class has a WhatsApp group where teachers will announce locations and parents can communicate with each other and post photos.

How much time will my child be outside?

On-site classes will have about half their class time outside. Wasatch Wanderers are all outside.

What gear do Wasatch Wanderers and Hybrid Classes need?

Please purchase quality, weather appropriate gear. Hiking shoes, snow boots, waterproof mittens, snow suit, beanie, rain jacket, rain pants, sun hat are all necessary. Your child will also need a backpack with a chest strap that clips. In your child’s bag pack a water bottle and a big snack/lunch. Kids on trails get hungry! Apply sunscreen prior to drop off.

Kid to Kid, REI and Poshmark are great places to find discounted gear. We also have discounts with select brands. View them on our Member Perks page.

Do classes get cancelled for bad weather?

We follow the U of U and Salt Lake City School District weather cancellation policy. If class is cancelled you will be notified via your WhatsApp groups.

Wasatch Wanderers will meet in most weather (unless following the above cancellation policy). However, if the weather is in the teens or negatives we may cancel or look for an alternate indoor location.

Wasatch Wanderers will have an alternative, indoor meeting spot on red air days. On-site classes will limit or cancel all outdoor time if the AQI exceeds 151, RED ZONE or Unhealthy for All
