Message from the President (January 2016)

Happy 2016!

First, I want to thank the sixty parents who completed the parent survey before winter break. The responses are very helpful and, in fact, the board of directors has decided to implement several new policies based on your comments. We will review those at the Parent General Meeting next month.

And speaking of the General Meeting, as we move into the second half of the school year, there are several events on our school calendar. I hope that you will be able to participate in all of them.

These include:

Parent General Meeting

Tuesday, February 23, 2016
7:00pm
Mark your calendar for this bi-annual Parent General Meeting. At least one parent from each family must attend.
Believe it or not, enrollment for the 2016-17 school year will begin at the end of February. We hold this General Meeting in order to update parents on next year’s class schedule, review the enrollment process, announce details about summer camp, and highlight other timely information. For parents whose children are graduating from CCNS this year, we will also explain what we are doing to prepare your children for kindergarten, including some readiness activities that you can do at home.

Party at Jump Around Utah

Wednesday, January 27, 2016
3:30-5:30 pm
All CCNS students, as well as family and friends, are invited to bounce, play, and even eat dinner at this annual party. We will have pizza, treats, and some healthy snack options available for a nominal fee. This is a great opportunity to spend time with other CCNS families, while your children expend (a lot of) energy before bedtime! The cost is $5 per child, and CCNS will keep half of the proceeds, so it’s also a nice fundraiser for our school.

St. Patrick’s Parade

Saturday, March 12, 2016 (float decoration dates preceding the parade)
Time: TBD
Dress your family in green, decorate your bike, or just march alongside other CCNS families in the Salt Lake City St. Patrick’s Day parade. Stay tuned for information about decorating our float and participating in this festive event.

CCNS Rummage Sale

Saturday, April 23, 2016
Time: TBD
As spring-cleaning season approaches, the CCNS Rummage Sale is a great excuse to get rid of your unwanted clothing, furniture, gear, and household items. And it’s an equally good opportunity to pick up some new treasures for a great price! Start setting aside items for the sale and be on the lookout for more details about when and where to donate your goods. All proceeds are used to buy supplies for the school. If you are interested in helping organize the sale, please contact Sonja Blackham (it’s a fun event and volunteers get first dibs on the merchandise!)

Spring Picnic

Saturday, May 21, 2016
Time: TBD
Our annual end-of-the-year family picnic and auction will take place on Saturday, May 21, in the CCNS playground. This fun event includes lots of kids’ activities, a well-stocked silent auction, lots of food, and a chance to spend time with other CCNS families. We’ll announce more details as the date approaches.

CCNS Summer Camp

June-August, 2016
Last year our specialty-themed summer camp weeks filled quickly and were a huge hit with kids and parents alike. In order provide the best possible experience this year; we will limit the number of participants in each session. So keep an eye out for more summer camp information in the next couple of months.
Thank you for helping make CCNS a great community!
