Parent Responsibilities

CCNS has a strong community of parental involvement. In addition to monthly tuition, CCNS families are asked to contribute their time. Each enrolled family must also perform the following duties:

  • Co-op: Parents assist the teacher during class time approximately two times every four weeks in the older classes and one time every three weeks in the younger classes.
  • Committee Membership: Parents must participate on at least one operating committee during the year.
  • Meetings: Parents must attend the school’s general and class meetings. Children do not attend these meetings.

Committee Options

The committees to serve on are:

  • Board of Directors: Help develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for CCNS. Board positions are volunteer, and members will work closely with the director, teachers, and committee chair people to support the day-to-day operations of the school. The board meets once per month in the evening, and members may be required to serve on sub-committees for special initiatives as the need arises.
  • Co-op Calendar Scheduler: Coordinate the co-op schedule for your child’s class.
  • Newsletter: Write informative, entertaining articles and submit photos for the online CCNS newsletter and blog. This committee requires a chairperson to edit the articles and execute publication.
  • Social: Plan and implement school-wide social events, typically about 3 per year. This committee requires a chairperson.
  • Fall Harvest: Plan and implement a fundraising dinner. The committee is divided into groups, including dinner, décor, and fundraising. Each member will contribute at least 3 items to the auction and must participate in event set-up and clean-up. The event requires a chairperson.
The date for this event is Saturday, November 14, 2015.
  • Spring Picnic: Plan and implement a family picnic and fundraiser to be held in May 2016. The committee is divided into groups including activities, logistics, and fundraising. Each member will contribute at least 3 items to the auction and must participate in event set-up and clean-up. The event requires a chairperson.
The date for this event is to be determined.

The new committees to serve on are:

  • Clean Ups: Help clean the classrooms and playground during two of three clean-up sessions during the school year (include dates). Clean-ups take place from 9am – 12 pm. Each clean-up requires a chairperson.
The three clean up dates are October 3, January 23, and April 2.
  • Fundraising: Procure a total of at least $300 worth of auction items that will be included in one of our fundraiser events (Fall Harvest or Spring Picnic).
  • Marketing: Implement marketing activities to build awareness and maintain full enrollment at CCNS. Includes compiling the annual yearbook, posting regularly to the school FaceBook pages, creating & posting fliers to promote events, gathering photos for use in the newsletter, yearbook, website, etc. At least one member of the committee should have graphic design skills. This committee requires a chairperson.
  • Director’s Assistant: Assist the director with special projects and administrative duties throughout the year.
  • Extra Co-op: Co-op an additional 1-2 days in your child’s class each month, beyond your scheduled days.
